Power Line Demonstrations

Dixie EPA Teaches Students about Power Lines

Dixie EPA encourages all schools to teach children about electricity. We at Dixie EPA offer school demonstrations and speeches to help educate children about electricity.

Every year Dixie EPA offers elementary schools an educational program covering electrical safety. This program allows young students to see how electricity is distributed for and how they can remain safe around electricity.

Dixie EPA goes to the schools and sets up a demonstration board which has a model of a house, road, and power lines. The lines are energized and an acre of electricity is drawn to show children exactly what electricity will do. The model has children climbing in trees, flying a kite, and a school bus that all come in contact with power lines. With this demonstration board, the children learn about transformers and facts about electricity. Sample overhead and underground power lines are pasted around so each student can have a hands on experience. Safety gear worn by our linemen is also presented for viewing during the demonstration.

We offer oral presentations to the upper grade students. We at Dixie EPA have found that high school students are interested in energy saving tips. These students are preparing to go out into the world and want to know how to save money on an electric bill. We also encourage students to take interested in their local cooperative when looking for a job. An electrical cooperative is a great place to work.
